What is a resume match score?

This tool measures keyword coverage in your resume text. AI extracts two keyword lists from the posting; the match score weights required-keyword coverage at 80% and preferred-keyword coverage at 20%. It does not assess whether you can perform the job.

Required terms: the share of extracted must-have keywords found in your text.
Preferred terms: the share of extracted nice-to-have keywords found in your text.
Missing terms: items to review for evidence, not words to add automatically.

Illustrative example: a posting lists SQL, Python, dashboards, and stakeholder communication as required, with Tableau and dbt preferred. Finding 3 of the 4 required terms and 1 of the 2 preferred terms gives 75% × 0.8 + 50% × 0.2 = 70. This is a worked example, not a customer result or an interview probability.

An empty keyword group contributes zero; if no preferred terms are extracted, the match score can reach 80 even when every required term is found. Check the lists, not just the total. The separate ATS checklist combines keyword, text-format, and writing checks using a different formula.

Text checks cannot fully inspect a document’s visual layout, validate qualifications, or reproduce Workday, Greenhouse, or any other employer’s screening rules. AI extraction can miss or misclassify terms. Read the source posting and correct your resume only where the facts support it.
